Looking for a leadership position? Have an interest in history and want to get involved? Look no further than the Bishop’s University History Association. While you probably haven’t heard of it, that’s ok! This article is here to tell you all about what BUHA is and what it does.
Ironically enough, there isn’t much history about BUHA’s creation. Evidence found (from the logo) does show that it was created “a long time ago,” but the rest has been lost to time. As of today, BUHA consists of 6 executive positions, 4 of which have already been filled. The President (myself – Sarah) and the Vice-President work closely together to run the wonderful association, while the Secretary-Treasurer takes care of bureaucratic matters and money matters.

BUHA has two Directors of Communications positions, one of which is now open. The person who will fill this position will mostly be responsible for keeping the social media account active (Instagram), as well as promoting the events and happenings of the association. The last executive position is the 1st year Representative, which is also open. This position must be fi lled by a 1st-year History student. As 1st-year Representative, the person elected will act as a liaison between BUHA and the lower-year students, ensuring that their interests and voices are heard within the organization.
So what does it mean to be involved in BUHA? Well, during the Fall semester, BUHA tries to organize a study night during midterms for history classes. This allows collaboration between students who have previously taken courses and those who are currently enrolled in it. Another goal is to organize a movie night this semester, so please let the BUHA team know if that is of interest to you! The big part of BUHA’s work happens during the Winter semester, when we put together the Historical Review. The Review is a collection of history-related essays written by students in the previous year.
What kind of work really goes into creating the Review? Well, as executive members, the team collects from the previous academic years. Once they have enough, they divide the articles among members and begin the editing process to ensure high- quality articles reach their audience. BUHA comes up with a visual theme, designs the whole thing, puts it together, and then prints it. The team then has a launch party where we proudly get to show off what we created!
