The BU Club Hockey team recently played two preseason games against an out-of-league opponent, the ETS Piranhas, to prepare for their upcoming season opener. With the Piranhas being an RSEQ D2 team, it was a good test for the team as well as allowing them to pinpoint areas that may need improvement heading into their double header with Mass Maritime Academy.

The team traveled down the morning of Saturday, Sept. 20, to the Montreal area for a game against ETS on the road. The matchup took place in the Verdun Auditorium for a rematch of an exhibition game from the year prior that the Piranahas won in Lennoxville. The team started off the game hot and kept the game close with BU goaltender, Antimmes Leudieres, playing well. A few unfortunate mishaps a little later into the game would unfortunately prove to be the Gaiters demise as the ETS squad managed to convert on a couple 2-on-1s and take the win with a score of 5-1.

The team spent the night in Montreal and went to see the Montreal Canadiens arena the next morning and take a tour of places such as the locker room and suites. Perhaps trying to draw some inspiration from the pros, the team then loaded up and headed back to Lennoxville to take on the Piranhas once again. This time the game took place in the plex at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, with the team drawing a decent crowd. Looking to put some of their thoughts from the day prior the puck dropped to start the game.

Jack McFarland started in net for Bishop’s and played a fantastic outing in his time on the ice. He would shut ETS out after the first period with both teams remaining tied up at zero. In the second, a shot from the point would find its way through a screen for the Piranhas to put them up 1-0. They would score again not long after, before Jack McFarland would be swapped for Nicolas Halle Tanco, with the BU side looking to let all three goalies see some preseason action.

The rest of the game did not go how the team wanted, with multiple defensive lapses resulting in a 10-2 loss to ETS. The team looks to turn the tides against Mass Maritime Academy on Oct. 3 at home with time to come soon.
