Recruitment Update

Posted by

As the second semester marches on, the Recruitment Office is already looking to next September.

“Our goal is to have over 1900 students at BU in 2010-2011,” says Jock Phippen, Bishop’s Director of Enrolment Management. “With applications to Bishop’s up 30%, we think that’s attainable.”

Having overseen recruitment efforts since last summer, Phippen points to a number of new initiatives as contributing to success thus far.

“If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that people here are willing to help. I’ve had professors, staff and students ask how they can help, and that’s been very positive. Combined with hard-working staff and our great Student Ambassadors, it’s made a world of difference.”

The Student Ambassador program is something Phippen is especially happy with. “We’ve got 13 great students who’ve worked with us giving tours, attending events in Toronto and helping out with the day-to-day office work. We’ll be hiring soon for next year, and very much looking forward to having more great students in the office.”

Over the next few months, the Recruitment Office will be working to convert those applications, and have those students attend Bishop’s next fall.

“Everyone’s worked hard to get applications up, and now we need to make sure we work just as hard to help those students attend. It’s going to be a race to the finish line.”

This Spring, the Recruitment Office will be hiring new student ambassadors, and two full-time recruiters for work in Quebec and Central/Western Canada. Pick up the next issue of The Campus for more information.
