Bishop’s University’s Fourth Annual Fashion Show
Everyone was dressed to the nines as Centennial played host to Bishop’s Fourth Annual Charity Fashion Show. With all proceeds from this year going to the relief effort in Haiti, BU managed to raise $7000. Along with the government’s assistance, who matched all donations made at the show, UNICEF will be getting a total of $14,000 from us! Not bad for one night.
That one night, however, was the result of countless hours of preparation and dedication on behalf of the performers and coordinators. Micah Sifton, Erin Pollon, Kimber Parmar and Kevin Donelle were responsible for organizing this year’s spectacle. Our thanks must also be given to all of the performers involved, as well as DJ AP who managed to bring an electric feel to the show.
This year featured lines of clothing from brands such as FCUK, Z E N T, Billabong, Roxy, Aqua di Lara and Punto Blanco Underwear, which even the MCs of the night slipped into for a bit. Any avid reader of The Campus will recognize the name Z E N T. Zent Keymole is the first year business student who, in 2009, launched his own clothing line that bears his name. We were lucky enough to get a look at his “fashion forward” and creative style, which certainly held its own against every other line that graced the catwalk that evening.
As for the actual preparation of the show, Micah Sifton, one of the coordinators, described the process as being extremely stressful. The work seemed never-ending and the “hours were insane.” Most rehearsals took place between 10pm and 1am on weekdays! This show clearly wasn’t for anyone solely interested in trying on some new clothes and getting a little limelight. Aside from one model who seemed to be enjoying the whole experience a little too much, the show went on without any delays and the practice showed. The crowd wasn’t shy in showing their approval either.
There was definitely a noticeable difference in the quality of the show compared to last year’s. “Overall improvement, more organization and more advertisement” is what the coordinators continue to strive for. Advertisement is definitely the key. Although already one of the biggest nights of the year, it didn’t feel like a true Bishop’s affair in the sense that the school spirit and hype surrounding the show should have been much, well, more!
Isn’t there anyone who can come up with something a little more creative in terms of promotion that doesn’t involve standing in the SUB and sending a Facebook message every other day? How about a little preview to get people interested…have the models wear their most outrageous outfit to their classes one day. Anything outside the obvious to differentiate it from the countless other events at Bishop’s would make a huge difference.
Eager to continue perfecting the show however, Micah and Erin are looking for students to shadow them and learn their ways to pass the show down. The two are more concerned about having the peace of mind that in the future it will be executed properly. Who can blame them after they’ve helped in bringing the show to the level it is today.

WTF, No pics?
