Carolina Panthers take a chance on BU standout

Jamall Lee is packing his bags and heading south after the NFL’s Carolina Panthers signed him as an undrafted free agent April 26th, 2009. Needless to say, the impressiveness of this accomplishment is difficult to express in words as Canadian players from Canadian universities do not usually have the physical abilities to make this leap.

Anyone who has seen Lee play football during his four-year career at BU can attest that this kid definitely has the physical talent, along with the mental game that is needed to succeed at the highest level.

Recently I had the opportunity to ask Jamall about his experience at Panthers mini-camp in late April and early May.

“The Panthers mini-camp was real fast paced. I admit I was star-struck and felt like a fan for the first few minutes. Fortunately, when I got the playbook and realized how many plays they wanted us to learn over three days, that feeling didn’t last long. I had to buckle down and focus on the task at hand. The guys were all extremely supportive and the team was in a positive state. I was just looking forward to making the most out of the opportunities I got.”

Unfortunately for Lee, it doesn’t appear he will have much time to soak in his recent accomplishments as it is now time to train harder than ever and prepare himself for training camp beginning at the end of July.
